Enter your lot frontage (the width of your lot along the street, from your survey) to see the maximum driveway width under By-law 0182-2024.
Based on Table 4.1.9A of Mississauga By-law 0182-2024. Lots with an exception zone, area-specific rules or a minor variance approved before the by-law keep whichever allowance is larger, and some multi-unit zones (RM and RA) are treated differently. Confirm with the City or on our free site visit. Etobicoke and the rest of Toronto follow Toronto's rules instead.

How to find your lot frontage
Frontage is the width of your lot along the street. It's on your property survey and often on your purchase documents. If you don't have either, pacing the front lot line gives a rough number (one big step is about 3 ft), but confirm it before you plan the work.
Can I widen my driveway without a permit?
Widening within the maximum width is a zoning matter, so on your own property you generally don't need a building permit. You do need City approval for any change to the curb cut or work in the City boulevard (the strip between your property line and the road). We check both before quoting a driveway extension.
How wide should a driveway be for 2 cars?
About 6 m (20 ft) fits two cars side by side with room to open doors, which is exactly the limit on most detached Mississauga lots (6.1–16.9 m of frontage). A 3.0 m driveway fits one car; 8.5 m on wide lots fits about three.
If you want it wider than the limit
You'd apply to Mississauga's Committee of Adjustment for a minor variance. It involves a fee, notice to neighbours and a hearing, so it adds weeks to months. Most homeowners get what they need within the limit, for example by widening near the garage and keeping a planted strip at the street.
Etobicoke and Toronto are different
Etobicoke follows City of Toronto rules, not Mississauga's. Any driveway work that crosses the boulevard, sidewalk or curb needs a permit from Transportation Services, and front-yard parking is regulated under Municipal Code Chapter 918. Some areas don't allow new front-yard parking at all.
