Paver driveways for Port Credit homes, village lots included

An interlocking driveway in Port Credit starts with a site visit and ends with a written, itemized quote. The crew that quotes it builds it, to the spec in that quote.

The City’s Official Plan maps a Port Credit Neighbourhood Character Area in three pieces along Lakeshore Road, south of the CN rail line, with the Credit River and the harbour in the middle (Map 15-14). Its policies sit in the Port Credit Local Area Plan.

Inside the Old Port Credit Village heritage district

Replacing a driveway in the same material, area and size needs no heritage permit, but hard landscaping in a new material does (s. 17.2 j of the district plan). Asphalt to interlock is a new material, so it needs a permit.

The district runs from Lakeshore Road West to the lake, between Mississauga Road and the Credit River. The City publishes the Old Port Credit Village Heritage Conservation District Plan, which says:

Same material,same area and size?Yes: no heritage permit(plan s. 17.2 j)No, a new material:heritage permit firstLocate request,then buildLocate request,then build

  • Permeable pavers are preferred over asphalt or concrete.
  • Front yards stay mainly landscaped, not hard-surfaced.
  • A new garage gets a single-lane drive to one side, narrowed at the curb.
  • Street-tree roots and existing grades are left undisturbed.

The plan says anyone doing non-exempt work on a contributing property without a permit will be prosecuted, so check with City Heritage Planning first.

Lots outside the heritage district

Outside the district, the City’s driveway rules and By-law 0182-2024 apply. The City says no building permit is needed to widen a driveway, but a change on the boulevard needs a new curb cut.

Width follows By-law 0182-2024: under 6.0 m of frontage allows 3.0 m; 6.1 to 16.9 m allows 6.0 m; 17.0 m or more allows 8.5 m. A lot with an exception zone, or a minor variance approved on or before October 9, 2024, keeps the greater width (art. 4.1.9A.1). The full table is on driveway widening.

Permeable or standard pavers?

The district plan prefers permeable pavers. Water drains through open joints into an open-graded stone base instead of running off the surface.

FAQ

Port Credit questions.

What does an interlock driveway cost in Ontario, and on a Port Credit lot?

Our typical GTA range is $25–$45 per sq ft installed, so most 2-car driveways land between $15,000 and $27,000 before HST. Removal of the old surface, base depth, soil and the paver you pick move the number. You get an exact written quote after a free site visit.

Is interlocking cheaper than concrete?

Usually not up front: GTA plain concrete averages $12–$20 per sq ft (Green Building Canada, 2026). Inside the Old Port Credit Village district, the heritage plan prefers permeable pavers over asphalt or concrete, which can decide the choice there. See the interlock vs concrete guide.

How long does an interlock driveway last?

On a full base, about 25 to 30 years (Country Reno, Toronto lifespan table). Poorly built ones can fail in 3 to 5 winters. Topping up polymeric joint sand every 5 to 10 years keeps pavers tight (Country Reno gives 5-8 and 7-10), and sealing is optional every 2 to 3 years.

What is the widest driveway allowed in Mississauga?

By frontage: under 6.0 m allows 3.0 m; 6.1 to 16.9 m allows 6.0 m; 17.0 m or more allows 8.5 m (By-law 0182-2024). Lots with an exception zone or a variance approved by October 9, 2024 may keep more.

Do I need a heritage permit to replace my driveway in Old Port Credit Village?

Not if it is the same material, area and size (plan s. 17.2 j). A new material, such as asphalt to pavers, needs a heritage permit. Check with City Heritage Planning first: the plan says non-exempt work on a contributing property without a permit will be prosecuted.

How long does installation take?

Most two-car interlocking driveways take 3 to 5 working days, weather permitting: one day to remove the old surface and excavate, one to two days to build and compact the base, and one to two days to lay, cut and finish the pavers. Locates must be in before digging starts.

Can the price change after the estimate?

Our typical GTA range is $25–$45 per sq ft installed, so most 2-car driveways land between $15,000 and $27,000 before HST. Removal of the old surface, base depth, soil and the paver you pick move the number. You get an exact written quote after a free site visit.
