Why hardscaping fails in Mississauga, and how we build it.
Most sunken driveways and leaning walls in the GTA fail from below. Water gets into a thin or poorly packed base, freezes, lifts the pavers or pushes the wall, and the damage shows a few winters later.
So the work starts underground. We dig out the old surface and soft soil, build the base up in compacted gravel layers, set edge restraints so pavers can't creep, and finish the joints with polymeric sand. Every surface is pitched so rain and meltwater run away from the house.
Walls get the same thinking: a compacted footing, clear stone and a perforated pipe behind the wall so water can't build pressure. That is what keeps a hardscape straight for decades instead of a few seasons.
Before we dig
Mississauga caps driveway width by lot frontage, so we check your limit first with the same rules as our width checker. We confirm where your lot ends, because the boulevard by the road is City land (how much of your front lawn is city property). Walls over 1 m are planned with a permit and engineered drawings from the start.

Design choices
Hardscape designs that suit Mississauga homes.
Paver patterns. Herringbone locks together best under car traffic, so it is the usual choice for driveways. Running bond and basketweave read calmer on walkways and look at home on older brick houses.
Borders. A soldier-course border in a darker paver frames the driveway, hides the cut edge and makes the whole surface look finished. It is one of the cheapest upgrades for the difference it makes.
Pavers or large slabs. Classic rectangular pavers handle driveways and repairs easily; larger, smoother slabs give walkways and landings a modern, clean look.

Which hardscape holds up best through Ontario winters?
The one with the deepest, best-compacted base. Interlock on a properly excavated gravel base flexes with frost instead of cracking, and single pavers can be lifted and relaid if a spot ever settles.
Do I need a permit for hardscaping in Mississauga?
Most driveway and walkway work on your own lot doesn't need a building permit, but driveways must stay within the zoning width limits and any work in the City boulevard needs approval. Retaining walls over 1 m of exposed height need a permit and engineered drawings.
