Interlocking driveways for Clarkson homes
An interlocking driveway in Clarkson starts with a site visit and ends with a written, itemised quote. Solid Landscaping writes the quote, and our own family crew builds the driveway to the base and drainage spec in it.
The City’s Official Plan maps Clarkson and Lorne Park as one neighbourhood area, running between the QEW and Lake Ontario from Winston Churchill Boulevard, at the Oakville border, east to Mississauga Road. Sheridan lies directly north across the QEW. Every job gets the full-depth build described on our interlocking driveways page.

Frontage and driveway width on Clarkson Road North
One Clarkson exception zone sets a larger frontage. On Clarkson Road North, exception zone R1-4 sets a minimum lot frontage of 45.0 m. It also sets a minimum lot area of 2,160 m² and a setback of 18.0 m from the road (Zoning By-law 0225-2007, s. 4.2.2.4).
A frontage of 45.0 m is far into the by-law’s “17.0 m or greater” band. That band allows up to 8.5 m of driveway. A lot in an exception zone keeps any larger width its exception already allows (article 4.1.9A.1 of By-law 0182-2024).
For location, Clarkson GO is at 1110 Southdown Road on the Lakeshore West line.
Replacing an old asphalt or concrete driveway with pavers
Yes, an old cracked asphalt or concrete driveway can be replaced with interlock. The old surface is broken out and hauled away first, then we dig 10 to 14 inches down.
We rebuild the base instead of reusing it. Geotextile goes in, then Granular A in compacted lifts to at least 6 inches, or 8 inches on clay or fill (Country Reno; ICPI guidance). If the surface has only sunk, ask about interlock repair.
How the job runs, start to finish
The job runs in five steps and takes 5 to 8 working days once digging starts (Country Reno), after the locates are cleared.
- Site visit and a written, itemised quote.
- A locate request through Ontario Dig Authority (formerly Ontario One Call), submitted at least 5 business days before digging. It is free.
- Excavate and build the base in lifts, graded to at least 2% (¼ inch per foot) so water runs off.
- Lay the pattern and the border course.
- Sweep in polymeric sand, compact and clean up.
Weather and pattern cuts add time. The written quote names the base depth, drainage and who requests the locates before work starts.
Going wider: the City’s driveway width rule
The widest driveway Mississauga allows depends on lot frontage. By-law 0182-2024 sets three limits. Under 6.0 m of frontage, 3.0 m. From 6.1 to 16.9 m, 6.0 m. At 17.0 m or more, 8.5 m.
| Lot frontage | Maximum driveway width |
|---|---|
| Less than 6.0 m | 3.0 m (9.8 ft) |
| 6.1 m to 16.9 m | 6.0 m (19.7 ft) |
| 17.0 m or greater | 8.5 m (27.9 ft) |
The City says you do not need a building permit to widen a driveway (residential driveways). Widening onto the boulevard needs a new curb cut. The City calls it an access modification. Read more on driveway widening.
Interlock or concrete for a driveway like this?
Interlock usually costs more up front: $15 to $35 per sq ft against $12 to $20 for plain concrete in the GTA (Green Building Canada, May 2026). Interlock’s case is looks and repair. A sunken or stained paver is lifted and replaced on its own.
Compare the two in interlock vs concrete
Pavers, patterns and borders
Driveways use 80 mm vehicle-rated pavers; 60 mm is for walkways (Country Reno). Herringbone, basketweave and running bond are common, usually with a border course.
Keeping the driveway tight after winter
Top up the joint sand every 7 to 10 years and seal every 2 to 3 years if you want the colour held (Country Reno). After each winter, walk the edges and look for sunken spots or loose pavers at the border.
If a section has settled, see interlock repair and releveling.
Nearby areas we also serve
We also build driveways in Lorne Park, which shares Clarkson’s neighbourhood area, and in Sheridan, just north across the QEW. Erin Mills is a short drive north.

FAQ
Clarkson questions.
What does an interlock driveway cost in Ontario, and in Clarkson?
Our typical GTA range is $25–$45 per sq ft installed, so most 2-car driveways land between $15,000 and $27,000 before HST. Removal of the old surface, base depth, soil and the paver you pick move the number. You get an exact written quote after a free site visit.
Is interlocking cheaper than concrete?
Usually not up front. Plain concrete in the GTA averages $12–$20 per sq ft (Green Building Canada, May 2026), against $15–$35 for interlock (Ultrascape and Country Reno). The case for pavers is how they repair, one stone at a time, and how they look. Our interlock vs concrete guide compares the two over the life of the driveway.
What is the widest driveway allowed in Mississauga?
It depends on lot frontage: 3.0 m under 6.0 m, 6.0 m from 6.1 to 16.9 m, and 8.5 m at 17.0 m or more (By-law 0182-2024). Widening needs no building permit, but a boulevard change needs a curb cut request. Lots in exception zones may keep a larger width.
How long does an interlock driveway last?
On a full-depth compacted base, 25 to 30 years is typical (Country Reno). A thin base can fail within 3 to 5 winters. Joint sand needs a top-up every 7 to 10 years, and sealing every 2 to 3 years keeps the colour.
Can my old cracked concrete or asphalt driveway be replaced with interlock?
Yes. The old surface is removed and disposed of, then the ground is dug 10 to 14 inches down. Geotextile and Granular A go in next, compacted in lifts, then bedding sand and pavers. The old base is not reused, because a failed base is usually why the surface cracked.
How long will the installation take?
A typical driveway takes 5 to 8 working days once digging starts (Country Reno). A locate request must be in at least 5 business days before digging, per Ontario Dig Authority, so book early. Rain and pattern cuts add time.
Are estimates free in Clarkson, and can the price change?
